Privacy Policy — Azan - Prayer Times

Last updated: August 4, 2026

In short: Azan - Prayer Times works entirely on your device. It does not require an account, does not collect, sell, or share your personal data, and does not contain advertising, analytics, or tracking software of any kind. The only network request the app ever makes is an anonymous, one-way lookup of today's weather for your general area.

1. Who this policy covers

This policy explains how Azan - Prayer Times (the "App"), developed by Rashel Khan ("we", "us"), handles information when you download and use the App on Android.

2. Information the App uses

2.1 Location

The App asks for location access (precise or approximate) so it can:

Prayer-time and Qibla calculations happen entirely on your device using standard astronomical formulas — your coordinates are never sent anywhere for these features, even if your device has no internet connection at all.

If you'd rather not share your device's location, you can instead pick a city manually from the in-app list (Settings → Location) — the App works exactly the same way, just using that city's fixed coordinates instead of GPS.

2.2 Weather lookups

To show today's weather at the top of the Home screen, the App sends your coordinates (rounded to roughly 100 metres of precision) to the free, third-party Open-Meteo weather service. This request:

If there's no internet connection, this lookup simply fails silently and the weather is hidden — every other feature keeps working normally.

2.3 Your settings

Choices you make in the App — calculation method, Asr school (madhab), notification toggles, Azan sound, language, theme color, manually-entered locations, and similar preferences — are saved only in local storage on your device. We have no server, so we never receive, see, or store this information ourselves.

2.4 Notifications and alarms

Prayer-time and Azan alerts are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device using Android's own alarm and notification systems. No notification content is generated by, or passes through, any server we operate.

3. What we don't do

4. Permissions the App requests, and why

PermissionWhy the App needs it
Location (precise/approximate)Calculate prayer times, Qibla direction, and local weather.
InternetFetch today's weather only (see 2.2). Every other feature works fully offline.
NotificationsShow prayer-time and Azan alerts.
Alarms & reminders (exact alarms)Ring the Azan at the precise, correct minute for each prayer, even in Doze/battery-saver mode.
Ignore battery optimizations (optional)Some device manufacturers aggressively kill background apps, which can silently stop Azan alarms from ringing. This optional exemption keeps alarms reliable; the App only wakes briefly at each prayer time and uses no background data.
Run at startup (boot completed)Re-schedule today's prayer alarms after your device restarts.
Vibrate / full-screen alert / foreground service (media playback)Play the Azan sound and show the ringing screen reliably, the same way an alarm clock app does.

5. Children's privacy

The App is a general-audience utility (prayer times, Qibla, calendar) that does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Since we don't collect personal data at all, this applies equally regardless of the user's age.

6. Data retention and deletion

All settings and cached data live in the App's local storage on your device. Uninstalling the App, or clearing its storage from Android Settings → Apps, permanently deletes this data. Because we never receive a copy of it, there is nothing for us to separately delete on our end.

7. Third-party services

The only third-party service the App talks to is Open-Meteo for weather data, as described in section 2.2. Please see their own terms for how they handle requests made to their API.

8. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, note it in the App's release notes.
